The purpose of this package is to make TES IV: Oblivion look even better than when you bought it. To do this I've created new textures, normal maps, specular and parallax maps to replace a large number of those in the game with ones which are higher resolution and more photo realistic, while at the same time still very close to the original feel of Bethesda's intentions. Replacement meshes are also included to use parallax mapping. However, due to the increased resolution, machines with lower-end graphics cards may see severe slow-down with this mod. Features: * Most textures are 4 times the size of the originals. Some, even more. This makes things seem much clearer and sharper in-game. * A large number of meshes have been altered to take advantage of the game engine's parallax shader. * Only parts of the mesh which NEED parallaxing have the parallax flag enabled. With the third version of his texture pack for Oblivion, Qarl set very high standards for the visual quality of games using high resolution textures. He showed possibilities that inspire other texture artists and even professional game designers can learn from just looking at his work. But his pack also set high demands on PC hardware. Even high-end systems still stutter with the enourmous load it demands.

There are hundreds of small mods throughout the Internet that seek to retexture only one object or mesh. If a player really wants to improve the visuals of Oblivion without expending too much time, then texture packs are the easiest way to go about it.
One of the heftiest and most comprehensive texture packs out there is Qarl's Texture Pack III. Thousands of meshes and textures are rebuilt and/or improved by this mod, offering a wide range of unrivaled visuals. The only downside is that this particular pack can put a strain on one's PC. Note that this mod can be a bit heavy on low-end PCs.
A player can never go wrong with too many texture packs. Even the most comprehensive collections don't always include every single asset in their list of improvements. A good combination of extensive texture packs is the best way to go to get the most coverage.
Entire towns will look different when you install the texture pack. Hiking along the Gold Coast in-game is a sight to be seen already. But couple that with the new textures, and it looks like you're taking in a fine painting. If you have a higher end PC, and don't mind downloading 1.67 GBs of textures, get on it already.
